Austin Partners In Education provides classroom coaches who have a special combined role as tutor and mentor. Reading coaches provide consistent, positive support for 2-3 elementary or middle school students each week. This is a great way to support teachers, motivate students, and share life experiences that help promote a love of reading while helping students study vocabulary, improve fluency, and work on comprehension. Spanish speakers are particularly needed for elementary school students. Volunteers will attend an orientation training and receive a volunteer reading binder (which includes the weekly texts, discussion topics, and activities). A criminal background check will be run, and volunteers are asked to commit to 45 minutes/week for a semester, or preferably the school year.
